Job Description Summary

Webster University invites applications for the position of Academic ADA Coordinator in the Academic Resource Center (ARC). The Academic ADA Coordinator manages Disability Services, participates in student recruitment, registration and Freshman Days, and works with community organizations and the general public to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in guidance and counseling, adult and higher education, special education, social work, vocational rehabilitation, clinical psychology, or a related area is required.
• Experience working with students with disabilities is required.
• Must have experience in advising and/or mentoring students in a higher education setting.
• Must be able to multitask and perform various responsibilities simultaneously.
• Must be able to perform job responsibilities while managing and responding to frequent interruptions.
• Must possess skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner.
• Must be able to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
• Must handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to calmly and efficiently handle interactions ranging from routine to emergency with faculty and staff members and students.
• Must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong computer skills and experience with online services are desired.
• Demonstrated flexibility and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Excellent oral, written and communication skills are required.
• Must have the ability to prioritize and manage work-related stress.

Essential Duties

• Provide academic and educational guidance and counseling to students with documented disabilities, including documenting and developing academic accommodations, working with faculty and staff members to ensure equal academic access, and providing personalized assistance for and academic support to these students.
• Make referrals to appropriate University and community resources to help students with documented disabilities attain their life and educational goals.
• Counsel and support undeclared students in determining and declaring an academic major.
• Assist students with disabilities in making a smooth transition to the University and in maintaining a well-balanced University experience through face-to-face and/or telephone meetings.
• Identify specific campus services, including peer tutoring, academic ADA accommodations, the Writing Center, the Testing Center and Counseling, for student success based on individual students’ needs.
• Tutor students as needed.
• Communicate with faculty members to identify academic issues and provide early intervention strategies.
• Communicate with parents and families of students, upon consent, to generate a system of support for students.
• Promote awareness of University services for students with disabilities throughout the global University community (students, faculty and staff members, and administration).
• Develop, maintain, assess, and continually improve disability services policies and procedures.
• Report program news and statistics to the appropriate members of the University community.
• Investigate and pursue grant opportunities to support disability services efforts at Webster.
• Support other functions and the growth of the Academic Resource Center as needed.
