Job Description Summary

Webster University has an immediate opening for a Programmer Analyst in Information Technology. The Programmer Analyst reports to the Director of Enterprise Information and is responsible for the development, programming, integration, testing and implementation of applications/functions supporting the University’s enterprise information systems.

The Programmer Analyst will create special reports and file extracts from existing databases using generalized routines or report writers; analyze user reported problems in the database; review, analyze and evaluate existing business processes to determine areas for process improvement. Development experience in PHP, CakePHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, Apache web server, MySQL database server is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Functional/Technical Skills*
Experience with UNIX, SQL/Informix SQL, C/C++, perl, other database systems and scripting languages

Systems analysis experience, including requirements gathering, functional design, and technical design.

Strong development experience in PHP, CakePHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, XML, XSLT.

Apache web server, MySQL database server, *NIX operating systems experience.

Familiarity of mobile web development experience and device compatibility issues.

Familiarity of mobile applications development.

Knowledge of user interface/web usability and information architecture principles.

Working knowledge of web browser technology, features and functionality.
Knowledge of MySQL/MS-SQL, familiarity with design and architecture of relational databases.

Experience with system, unit and integration testing of web applications.

Excellent problem solving skills, interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal) and organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse user group and external constituencies

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines in a demanding environment

Ability to collaborate effectively with functional users, technical support staff, and vendors to insure information systems successfully meet business requirements.

Requisite Experience*

Two or more years of relevant work experience using relational databases, data retrieval and ad-hoc reporting tools

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

Performs required programming for problem resolution and customization as needed.

Create special reports and file extracts from existing databases using generalized routines or report writers.

Analyzes user reported problems in the database; fixes problems or reports them to supervisor in a timely manner.

Tests modified programs to ensure that changes operate correctly and that changes have no adverse impact on programs or systems operations.

Reviews, analyzes and evaluates existing business processes to determine areas for process improvement

Serves as a technical/support resource and contribute expertise within and between project teams.

Acts as liaison with specified user areas and confers with the users to define business problems and solutions.

Develops technical, operational, and user documentation.

Perform s other duties as assigned.


Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*

Evaluates and tests software updates to enterprise information systems.

Maintains professional knowledge of current trends and developments in the field and applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities.
