Job Description Summary

Webster University has an immediate opening for a Business Technology Specialist in Information Technology. The Business Technology Specialist reports to the Director of Enterprise Information and is responsible for implementing, managing, and supporting selected enterprise application systems, including but not limited to student housing, door access, and campus card systems. The responsibility includes planning, development, maintenance, implementation, integration, and operational support. In addition, the position also provides operational support to the email and portal systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or related degrees, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

Functional/Technical Skills*
Requires thorough understanding of both Windows and Apple Mac desktop environments as well as a variety of server environments, including Windows Server and Unix.

Requires broad range of knowledge of desktop systems and server-based systems as well as extensive experience working in those environments.

Must understand and have experience with web services architectures and approaches and understand how that is enabled in an integrated approach to IT organization, architecture, and solutions.

Excellent problem solving skills, interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal) and organizational skills

Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse user group and external constituencies

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines in a demanding environment

Ability to collaborate effectively with functional users, technical support staff, and vendors to insure information systems successfully meet business requirements.

Requisite Experience*
Two or more years of experience in one or more of the following areas: applications development/support, desktop / network technologies, information technology security, databases, end user support, and/or web technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a fast-paced higher education environment is preferred

Physical Demands

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Responsible for general administration of selected application systems – including planning, development, maintenance, implementation and integration.

Assumes operational support responsibilities for selected application systems, providing troubleshooting services for those applications; taking ownership of a broad range of technical and procedural issues around these systems as they arise, performing analysis to determine exact cause of issue and to determine an appropriate technical or procedural solution; working with other IT areas and/or end-users to implement those solutions.

Works closely with other team members to support the day-to-day operations of university-wide email and portal systems —including account provisioning and troubleshooting operational issues.

Works directly with end users, outside resources (vendors), and other enterprise systems technical staff to ensure that application systems meet Webster business process needs, and that end users can effectively use all application system capabilities and features.

Uses technical and professional knowledge to actively seek technologies, products and processes that will augment and improve current and anticipated business needs of the university

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities*
Assists appropriate IT areas with infrastructure system management as necessary.

Serves as a resource specialist and subject matter expert for other areas of IT as required and appropriate.

Develops professionally, staying current in related technologies.

Performs other duties as assigned
