Job Description Summary

The Instruction and Liaison Services Department of Webster University Library is seeking a Communications & Outreach Librarian. Develops and coordinates the marketing and outreach program for the Libraries in order to promote existing and new services, maintain the social media presence, implement programming, and increase the visibility of the Libraries across Webster’s global campuses. Participates in all aspects of library instruction and information literacy activities including possible evenings and weekends. Acts as a subject liaison to one or more departments, currently School of Communications and Department of English. This position reports to the Library Department Head of Instruction and Liaison Services & Co-Director of GLA.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library Science and library experience.
• Minimum of one year of academic library experience or comparable experience
• Computer and Internet experience.
• Teaching skills and experience.
• Supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of OCLC, the Internet, and electronic reference resources.
• Expertise in electronic databases.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public relations, outreach, and marketing
• Participates in the development and maintenance of the library’s virtual presence including the website and LibGuides.
• Solid understanding of academic library services, and enthusiasm for creating excellent experiences in both physical and virtual environments for all library patrons
• Demonstrated ability to provide effective instruction based on professional standards, frameworks, and best practices
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multiple formats to diverse audiences including ability to present complex information to patrons who possess different levels of library knowledge
• Ability to plan, manage, and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the strategic goals of the library and the university.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial, team based environment in the library and across the Webster network.
• Undergraduate or graduate degree or significant experience in one of the following liaison areas: Education, Media/Communications, and/or Business.

Physical Demands
Essential Duties

• Coordinate and provide leadership for Webster University Libraries’ marketing and outreach efforts.
• Develop and implement a library marketing and communication plan.
• Chair the Library Marketing and Outreach Committee.
• Produce communication and promotional materials including annual reports, web content, social media campaigns, mailers via Constant Contact, publications, and other materials to represent and promote Webster University Libraries.
• Analyze and assess effectiveness of messages, marketing materials, and distribution channels (including social media marketing).
• Assist in planning and promotion Webster University Libraries events, exhibits and other outreach activities.
• Coordinate and implement programming opportunities with other campus departments and the local community.
• Liaise with other departments and communications and marketing professionals across the university community to create innovative approaches to heighten awareness, understanding, and engagement with Webster University Libraries’ services, collections, activities, and initiatives.
• Serves as primary liaison to School of Communications and Department of English faculty, students and staff. Takes initiative to identify, meet, and facilitate ongoing communication about their resource needs and service expectations. Develop and manage collections to support research and instruction. Participates in the Library-wide Liaison Committee to review the collection, evaluate new resources, and to discuss other library issues.
• Designs and implements strategic and pedagogically appropriate instruction for library users through a variety of methods, especially in the School of Communications and the Department o of English; promote library services and collections to the global Webster University community.
• Provides research support to students through individual consultations and to faculty with services ranging from literature reviews to assistance in preparing for publishing or presenting.
• Collaborates with other library staff to advance the Library’s virtual presence (website, Research Guides, etc.)
• Oversees the hiring and evaluation of student assistants.
